Brett Favre, QB - Favre had a better year in 2006 than many expected, throwing for 3885 yards but only 18 TD's. He also had 18 IT's. This off-season he did the Packers a favor and made his decision to come back well ahead of time. One of the top quarterbacks of all time, his abilities are beginning to diminish. He has always been known to take crazy chances and throw into heavy traffic, but now those crazy chances are turning into stupid chances because he no longer has the accuracy needed. Still he is a good QB and will be better than average for fantasy numbers. Expect around 3800 yards and 20 TD's with another 20 IT's.
Vernand Morency, RB - Though he has a 4.4 yards per carry lifetime, he has only been in the league two years and has yet to get 100 carries in a season. Morency is a good young running back but he still has a lot to prove. Can he handle a full year in the NFL carrying the workload? A fact that might hurt his fantasy value is that Green Bay will air it out more often than keeping it on the ground. Another recent problem is that Morency has been injured through most of the pre-season, allowing Brandon Jackson to show his abilities. They may well end up sharing carries.
Donald Driver, WR - Driver is one of the more consistent receivers in the NFL. In each of his first 3 years in the NFL, he has caught between 84 to 92 passes and has been between 1200 and 1300 yards. However he has yet to score into the double digits in TD's. Expect him to get around the same again in 2007.
Greg Jennings, WR - In his first year as a wide receiver in the NFL, Jennings had 45 catches, 632 yards and 3 TD's. If he stays healthy you can expect him to pick those numbers up in his second year. Look for around 800 yards and 6 TD's.
Bubba Franks, TE - When Franks came into the NFL he was touted to be a premier TE. In his first year he showed signs of it with 361 yards and 7 TD's. In the next two years he has not broken 250 yards or had more than one TD.
ROOKIES
Brandon Jackson, RB - What Jackson does in the season is anyone's guess. Likely he would have been nothing but a back-up, but with Morency being injured through the pre-season it has allowed Jackson to move up. At this point it looks like he will share carries with Morency.
James Jones, WR - Jones came out of nowhere to ride up the draft charts in his senior season. Good hands and speed but has concentration lapses and can drop the easy pass now and then. Should have no effect on Driver or Jennings. |
